Rubrics for Assessing LearningSimply put, a rubric is an explanation of what a learner must do in order to score at a certain level on an assessment. One way to think about rubrics is that they objectivize subjective assessments. In other words, they provide a clear standard for grading, even for an assessment that doesn't have a single right answer. Here is an example of a rubric for an assignment that asks students to come up with a behaviorist solution to a learning challenge:
